YGO CotD [02/28/11~03/04/11]

Post by Sobia6464 on Thu Feb 24, 2011 9:18 pm

The cards are Legendary six samurai shi-en,elemental hero absolute zero,e-hero gaia, legendary six samurai kizan, and machina fortress.

They will get reviewed in the order I think they should be reviewed as. I base my score off of a few qualities such as how situational it is, how easy it is to use, the advantages gained by it, how many decks it can fit into, and possible future plays set-up. Enjoy.

#5. Elemental Hero Gaia
Starting off our week of cards to be reviewed is Elemental Hero Gaia. Gaia is a fusion monster whose fusion requirements are 1 Elemental Hero Monster + 1 EARTH monster.

Let's start talking about the pros of this card. It is very useful if you are facing down a big monster, as it's effect allowed you to halve that monsters attack, and add half of that monsters attack to your own (which starts off at 2200). Lets use Red Dragon Archfiend in an example. You summon Gaia while facing RDA. RDA's attack will drop from 3000 to 1500, while your attack will soar from 2200 to 3700! In an elemental hero deck, this card wouldn't be too hard to summon.

Now let's talk about the cons. It's awesome effect only lasts for one turn. If its effect lasted longer, the card would be better. It only comes in with 2200 attack which is makes it considerably weaker then most synchro monsters out there. You need cards like Polymerization and Miracle Fusion in order to summon it. In my opinion, it just isn't worth it.

Overall, the card could have seen its day before synchro summoning, but now I would stay away from it. It's a one turn card that will most likely be taken care of, in today's meta, the following turn.

2/10

This is crazyninja3000's view on Elemental Hero Gaia:
crazyninja3000 wrote:Elemental Hero Gaia

Elemental Hero Gaia is Absolute Zero's Earth counterpart. His effect is not as playable, but he still is a good card. When this guy is Summoned, he targets an opponent's monster, halves its attack, then adds that amount of attack to his own until the end of his turn.

The effect is good, as Gaia is a 2200/2600 stat monster. It'll easily deal over 2500 damage, unless you select a Deep Sea Diva(or another low attack monster).

Overall, Gaia isn't perfect, but he's still pretty good.

4/5

#4. Legendary Six Samurai - Kizan

Next in line is Legendary Six Samurai - Kizan. I shall abbreviate it as Legendary sic samurai as LSS for this review's length purposes.

In with the new LSS monsters, is Kizan, a fierce opponent. Like most good 4 star monsters, it has 1800 attack. However, that can easily go to 2100 attack if you have more then two other Six Samurai's on the field (Which is not hard to do in this deck). 2100 attack is a lot for a four star, with no draw backs other then the possibility of going back down to 1800.

This card combos well with many Six Samurai cards such as grandmaster, hand, Gateway, and many many more! In a six samurai deck, this card works wonders. In any other deck, this card may simply be a vanilla. Still, 1800 attack is decent for a 4 star monster.

All in all, this card is good and has its uses in a Six Samurai deck, but other then that it serves no purpose. If you are not running Samurai's, you won't really care about this card too much unless you're facing a six samurai one. Card has its uses with few drawback, but only in a deck for it.

4.5/10

#3. Machina Fortress

Coming up in third place is Machina Fortress. This card may have a high level, but that doesn't mean he is hard to summon. He's absurdly easy to summon, and because of that he deserves to be in the #3 slot. The fact that he is level 7 actually aids his summon (we will get to that later). His attack and defense are 2500 (ATK) and 1600 (DEF).

Let's get off to the main reason this card deserves the number 3 slot, his summoning condition. He can be special summoned from the hand OR graveyard simply by discarding machine type monsters whose total level equal 8 or more. Did I mention you can also normal summon this card? Because that makes it that much better. He starts at level 7, so if he is in your hand you can discard him and any other machine monster and special summon himself from the graveyard (even though you just discarded him). Essentially, it's easier than synchro summoning. In today's meta, that is important.

His attack is fairly decent at 2500. You can suicide him into a stardust and then use his effect to discard some machines and get him back. You can take care of a majority of other monsters as well, since this card has the ability to run them over. Sure he can get destroyed, but with that special summoning ability of his he can keep coming back. Defense is where he lacks luster. Book of moon him and he is lunch meat for basically any monster with more then 1600 attack (that's not hard to find).

You can only use his effect on your turn, and it does cost you a bit of your hand. Without a proper draw engine set up, you could find yourself out of cards which is (needless to say) not good. He tends to lure you to summon him at will with his decent attack, but attack doesn't matter much when you're facing a spell or trap or effect now does it? He can be taken care of and leave you hand-less, unless you play him smart. If played correctly, the second part of his effect (which activates when fortress is targeted by a monsters effect), could leave your opponent scattering for cards.

All in all, he is a good card when played correctly. I enjoyed taking a look at him and commenting him. He is good for Machinas and other machine decks (such as gadgets), but other then that his playability is low. I think this card is a must have for any deck that runs machines. The "Discard one of your opponents cards" part of his effect is better then expected, especially since you get to see your opponents hand and choose! Again though, he can be run over and he has to be targeted by an opponents monster's effect (Gale?), and usually people will stay away from doing so if they need the cards in their hand. It's not hard to find a way around it. Card is good, but only in machines.

5.5/10

You know those are all really good cards, and typically are the main card of the deck...

And they'll pretty much get only perfect scores...

2/10?

It's not that bad.

I think it deserves more of a 7...

tha's why E-Hero decks should run Super Polymerization. that way, if your opponent has Earth or Water monsters, you can steal them to summon Absolute Zero of Gaia.

I'm going to be as strict as possible in my ratings. I will put how I rate decks up there in a moment. It has to be a pretty good card to get above a 5.

It's not a good thing, it's troublesome. Idc how easy it is to summon, its effect is garbage. It only lasts one turn and that essentially means you must get rid of things you control in order to get a soon-to-be vanilla. He deserves the score he got.

Again, card must be fairly good to get higher then a 5. My rating style is unusually harsh. If anything gets a 10 ever, run it in any deck you own xD

Let's see.

Samurai run 3 Kizan. He special summons when another is out, and with 2, he has 2100 attack. He is a great card to have paired with any Samurai, both for extra damage and extra Gateway counters, and general swarm. I won a recent duel against Dandywarrior just because I topdecked it and boosted Grandmaster from the summon to run over their Synchro by 100 points.

Maybe it's not a 10 card. But a five is doing it a great disservice.

From your view. However, I am talking about the card overall, not just in it's respective deck. Book of Moon is far better then Kizan because of how many decks it can easily be thrown into. That's a big factor in the overall card. I am rating cards, not decks, so my rating system is unusually harsh. I know what you are saying, and yes I believe that if I was reviewing the card as if he was in a samurai deck he would have a way higher score, but I am talking about the card itself.

Also posted another review.

Then we should also rate cards like Dream Clown. In any other deck besides Clown Control, it is terrible. In that deck, it is the star of the show.
Does this warrant a score of 5 as well?

Indeed I will. As I have stated, I do not have much time on the weekends (including Friday) and Thursday I was busy. I shall finish them shortly.

Edit: *Sigh* Scratch that. I'll be back and forth on stuff for a while. Personally I think we should have card of the week rather then every day.

Any who, can ninja get the last two? I'm swamped. I'll be on, but busy at the same time. I can't write the article as good as I want to. I shall keep this forum active today, but that's about all I can do atm.

Apologies.
